MLDS 2026 "Explain It Like I’m 5" Terms & Conditions

1. The “Explain It Like I’m 5” Contest (hereinafter referred to as the “Contest”) is organized by BITS Pilani Digital, a vertical of Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (“BITS Pilani”) (“Organizer”).

Eligibility

2. The Contest is open to residents of India aged 18 years and above.

3. Employees of BITS Pilani Digital, its affiliates, subsidiaries, partners, managing agencies, and their immediate family members are not eligible to participate.

4. No purchase or payment is required to enter.

5. Participation constitutes acceptance of these Terms & Conditions.

Contest Period

6. The Contest will commence on 5th March 2026 and end on 14th March 2026, 11:59 pm. Entries received outside this duration will not be considered.

The selected responses will win an exclusive pass to the MLDS 2026.

This Contest is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with LinkedIn, Instagram, or Facebook (Meta Platforms, Inc.). Participants understand that they are providing their information to the Organizer and not to these platforms.

Selection of Winners

8. Selection is at the sole discretion of BITS Pilani Digital. The decision shall be final and binding.

9. The Organizer reserves the right to verify the eligibility of winners, including age and identity proof. Failure to provide satisfactory verification within the stipulated time may result in forfeiture of the prize.

Prize Details

10. Winners will receive MLDS 2026 event passes only.

11. Travel, accommodation, and any incidental expenses are not included.

12. Passes will be handed over at the MLDS 2026 venue on 26th/27th March 2026.

13. Prize is non-transferable, non-refundable, and cannot be exchanged for cash.

Content Ownership & Usage Rights

14. By participating, entrants grant BITS Pilani Digital a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, worldwide license to use, repost, publish, promote their submitted responses across digital, print, promotional, and marketing channels, without additional compensation.

15. Winners agree to participate in reasonable promotional activities related to the Contest and grant the Organizer the right to use their name, likeness, social media handle, photograph, and statements for publicity purposes without additional compensation.

16. Participants confirm that:

  • The submission is original.
  • It does not infringe on any third-party rights.

Disqualification Clause

17. BITS Pilani Digital reserves the right to disqualify any participant who:

  • Violates the rules
  • Submits plagiarized content
  • Uses bots/fake accounts
  • Engages in abusive conduct
  • Attempts to manipulate the contest

18. Participants agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless BITS Pilani, BITS Pilani Digital, its trustees, officers, employees, and affiliates from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, or expenses arising out of:

  • Violation of these Terms,
  • Infringement of intellectual property rights,
  • Misrepresentation,
  • Any unlawful conduct by the participant.

Limitation of Liability

19. BITS Pilani Digital shall not be liable for:

  • Technical failures
  • Network issues
  • Platform outages
  • Delayed or lost entries

Data & Privacy

20. By participating, the participant provides free, specific, informed, unconditional, and unambiguous consent for processing of their personal data for the purposes of administering the Contest, winner selection, prize distribution, and related communications.

Personal data shall be processed in accordance with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.

Participants have the right to:

  • Access information about their personal data,
  • Seek correction or erasure,
  • Withdraw consent at any time,
  • Grievance redressal.

Personal data will be retained only for as long as necessary for the stated purposes or as required under applicable law.

21. The Organizer shall not be liable for any failure or delay in performance due to events beyond reasonable control, including but not limited to acts of God, governmental restrictions, technical disruptions, pandemic, or event cancellation.

22. BITS Pilani Digital reserves the right to cancel, modify, or suspend the Contest at any time without prior notice. In case MLDS 2026 is postponed, modified, or cancelled, the Organizer shall not be liable to provide any alternative compensation unless expressly decided at its sole discretion.

23. Any applicable taxes, levies, or statutory dues arising from acceptance of the prize shall be solely borne by the winner.

24. The Organizer reserves the right to use technical tools and analytics to detect fraudulent entries or automated participation and may disqualify such entries without notice.

25. These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India. All disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in Delhi, India.
